| Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Malaysia were established in 1968, with the High Commission of Malaysia in Colombo concurrently accredited to the Maldives. The Maldives established a resident Mission in Malaysia in July 2006, with H.E. Mr. Midhath Hilmy as the first Maldives High Commissioner to Malaysia.
