How do get married in Malaysia?
Maldivians intending to marry in Malaysia are advised to ensure that the marriage is registered with the State Religious Office for them to be recognized as a Muslim marriage in Malaysia and the Maldives. (Per Maldives Family Regulation Section 21 and 27 the marriage has to be performed by a party that is authorized to conduct Muslim marriages in the country, otherwise the marriage is void.) Information about Muslim marriages in Malaysia can be obtained from:
Khadi’s Office Jabatan Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan (JAWI) Jalan Perdana 50670 Kuala Lumpur Tel: +6 03 2274 9333 Fax: +6 03 2273 2010 Q2.
How do I get a letter stating that I am not married?
Malaysian Marriage registrars may request
a statement from the Maldives High Commission stating that the High Commission
has no objection to a proposed marriage. The High Commission has no authority
to give consent to marriages nor does it have the authority to issue ‘Unmarried
Certificates’. We can, however, assist you in obtaining the document from the
Maldives Ministry of Justice or authenticate any document issued by the
Maldivian authority.
